Champions League - Liverpool Saved by Controversial Penalty

Liverpool were saved by a controversial injury time penalty to salvage a home draw with Atletico Madrid. Despite dominating the match, Liverpool found themselves fighting uphill all night. In the 2nd minute of injury time Steven Gerrard chased down a high ball in the Atletico box. Atletico's Pernia gave chase and arrived just late. Gerrard went to the ground and the penalty was awarded after minor contact and Gerrard moving away from goal. The captain put away the spot kick confidently and Liverpool were saved.

The group tightened considerably as Chelsea fell to Roma behind a pair of goals from Mirko Vucinic. With two games left all is to play for as only a point separates the top 3 sides.

Inter Milan 3 Anorthosis 3
The wild draw didnt hurt Inter too badly as they still sit over a game clear on 8 points. Panathinaikos, however, jumped right back into the fray knocking Werder Bremen to last in the table. The fight is really on for the 2nd spot to advance.

Barcelona 1 FC Basel 1
FC Basel pulled off the shock draw holding Barcelona to a 1-1 tie in Spain. Lionel Messi looked to have given Barca the points, but an 82nd minute goal from Eren Derdiyok gave the visitors a historic result. With the Shakhtar loss Barcelona gauranteed passage to the next round.
