There just was not too much drama to be had heading into the final matchday of 2008 Champions League group play. Almost every group was decided, but there was jockying to decide who would be the group winners. The lack of drama led to some interesting results as some top teams ran out reserve sides and rested stars. Interesting results such as FC Porto beating Arsenal 2-0, Manchester United tying AaB 2-2 and BATE Borislav tying Juventus 0-0.
The real drama came afterwards when teams started looking ahead to the coming draw for the round of 16. How about a Chelsea - Barcelona matchup? Or a Arsenal - Juventus? Or a Real Madrid - Manchester United clash? All are on the table as possibilities for the next phase. Now the Champions League really gets fun. Opening knockout games will be played late February with the return leg in early March.
