Barcelona finished off Shakhtar Donetsk Tuesday winning 1-0 behind a Lionel Messi goal. It was Messi's club record 48th goal of the year. The goal came in the 43rd minute and Barcelona won the series 6-1. Messi set a personal best, topping his 2009-10 total of 47 goals, which had tied the club season-scoring record set by the Brazilian Ronaldo in 1996-97. Barcelona will play rival Real Madrid or Tottenham. Real Madrid goes to London with a 4-0 lead from the first leg.
At Old Trafford, Chelsea put up a valiant fight as the first half was a wide open affair. Manchester United stole the momentum just before halftime when Javier Hernandez finished from close range as Ryan Giggs played a great ball across.
Chelsea got back into the match in the 2nd half. Didier Drogba was introduced off the bench and had an immediate impact. He took a ball down off his chest in the 77th minute and fired home to give the visitors life. Man U would have none of it though as they answered back almost immediately. Park Ji-sung scored iced the game as the scored a nice right footed shot after receiving the through ball from Giggs. Manchester United will play Schalke or defending champion Inter Milan in the semifinals.
