US fails to score again falling 1-0 to Belgium

US fails to score again falling 1-0 to Belgium
Once again the US attack was anemic at best.  The single forward was never dangerous and rarely got much help from the midfielders coming in support.  The US national soccer team lost to Belgium 1-0 Tuesday, leaving Jurgen Klinsmann without a win in three games since he was hired as the Americans' coach.

This was the first road game for the US since Klinsmann came aboard. The Americans earlier tied Mexico and lost to Costa Rica.  Belgium was a stiff test as they have a very talented young squad.  After a solid start from the Americans, Belgium bossed the last 15 minutes of the opening half.

US keeper Tim Howard was forced into several quality saves as he confirmed his status as one of the premier goalkeepers in the world.  The saves kept the game scoreless at the break.  Belgium took the lead early in the 2nd half and the goal really came from absolutely nothing.

A long throwin from the right side was not dealt with well in the US box.  A partial clearance fell to the top of the penalty area surprising American Clint Dempsey who was unable to close ground before the shot from N
icolas Lombaerts.  His strike was low, hard and through traffic.  Tim Howard couldn't get down in time to make the save as it rifled just under him for the goal.

After the goal Belgium was content to sit back.  The Americans kept possession but were raely dangerous as the home side kept the play in front of them.  The US looked to have scored late on, but the linesman had his flag raised disallowing the tally even though replays showed nothing.  It was a harsh call and the match would play out 1-0 to Belgium.
