Well, David Beckham arrived in town this afternoon and a sold out Pizza Hut Park watched his LA Galaxy run roughshod over a shellshocked FC Dallas side 5-1. The much anticipated match turned into nothing more than a showcase for Beckham's pinpoint longballs and LA Galaxy finishing. Some extremely shoddy goalkeeping from FC Dallas' Dario Sala in goal certainly helped the Galaxy cause though and throw in some woeful technical abilities from the Hoops Kenny Cooper and Abe Thompson (seriously I have a brick wall on the north side of my house that has a comparable first touch) and you have a blowout on your hands.
It looked to be a better day as FC Dallas created some early chances that went begging, but the Galaxy got on the board in the 25th minute behind a Chris Klein goal and never looked back. Four goals in the last twenty minutes of the first half and the result was well decided as the LA Galaxy led 4-0 at halftime.
The Hoops got on the scoresheet in the 54th minute as Dominic Oduro scored on an assist from Kenny Copper, but the real fireworks in the second half came in the 75th minute when Adrian Serrioux went sliding cleats up into David Beckham right in front of the FC Dallas bench. Beckham jumped up none too pleased with the nasty tackle and the referee immediately produced a red card for Serrioux who was awarded an early shower.
The Galaxy would notch one last goal as Edson Buddle finished his hat trick on a deft cross from David Beckham. Once again Dallas keeper Sala misjudged the ball and watched helplessly as the cross flew over his head to a waiting Buddle to tap into an empty net.
In the game of soccer, it is often the final ball or lack thereof that decides matches. None in MLS show the ability to play that special ball more than David Beckham. He is a pleasure to watch as he effortlessly is able to play 40 yard balls switching the point of attack at a moments notice.
