David Beckham made his Serie A debut with AC Milan on Sunday playing 88 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Roma. In the days leading up to the match Beckham was told he would be on the substitutes bench, but on gameday he was informed he would be getting the start.
''When we had the meeting before the game, Ancelotti told all the players what the team was and that's when I found out. I didn't think I would last that long but I felt so good. 'At half-time I felt really strong. I think the manager saw that I felt good, that I still had energy and he kept me on. And I'm glad the manager kept me as long as he did because I needed time on the pitch in order to get match fitness.''
One of Beckham's goals in the 2 month move to Italy is to gain match fitness and high level competetition which will enable him to get into Fabio Capello's England side for the World 2010 run.
There is some question as to whether or not Beckham will return to the LA Galaxy and MLS when his loan is up in March. ''The contract and the agreement is that I go back to LA on March 8 or 9 so I'm going to enjoy it up to then and we'll see,'' said Beckham.
