US National Teamer DaMarcus Beasley had his car set on fire in front of his home in Glasgow, Scotland. Local police says the car was set on fire deliberately and that an investigation is ongoing. Racism and soccer have been linked for decades and rears its ugly head regularly in Europe. Players such as Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba have been chastised and the French League has been subject to numerous complaints from players.
DaMarcus Beasley has experienced trouble earlier in his career in Europe as he has heard racist chants. He spoke about it back in 2007 after his transfer from Toronto FC and how disturbing it was. In December 2008 his car was broken into and vandalised.
Beasley's club Rangers described the latest event as a "disturbing and deplorable incident." The club is currently in first place, 10 points ahead of archrival Glasgow Celtic. DaMarcus has recently gotten over injury and returned to the field of play with a good run of form. He is hoping to continue the solid play and make the US roster for World Cup 2010.
