Aston Villa earned their first Old Trafford win since 1983 as they upset Manchester United 1-0 behind a 21st minute goal from Gabriel Agbonlahor. Although Villa headed north without a win for so long, they did have the confidence of victories against both Chelsea and Liverpool this season to fall back on. So now they can definitely be considered the giant killers of the EPL this year. With the win they also climbed into 3rd place.
Man U were not exactly a muted force, it was just that their efforts tended to be half chances rather than clear opportunities and the Aston Villa defense seemed to always be up to the task. Wayne Rooney did crack one off the crossbar, but otherwise the clear chances rarely came as Man U buzzed around.
Once Berbatov flubbed a finish it was obvious the day would belong to Aston Villa. The loss leaves Manchester United 2nd trailing leaders Chelsea by 3 points in the standings. It was a lost opportunity to make up points as Chelsea tied with Everton 3-3 earlier in the day.
