It seems nobody wants to win the EPL this year. Lackluster performances have been the norm so far from the favorites. Saturday was no different as Chelsea slumped to a 1-1 home draw with Everton. The idle Manchester United has a bucketful of draws this year and Arsenal were rescued from an ordinary performance by a pair of wonderful goals frolm Sami Nasri.
Chelsea were gifted a first half penalty at Stamford Bridge against Everton, but the lead would not stand. Everton scored through the head of Jermaine Beckford in the 86th minute to grab a deserved draw. Boos rained down at the final whistle and Chelsea were no longer leading the EPL.
Arsenal were ordinary as well at the Emirates. Luckily Samir Nasri had a bit of magic in him. Two wonderful goals on either side of halftime pulled Arsenal to a 2-1 win over Fulham and a move to the top of the EPL standings.
Tottenham squandered a chance to move up as they could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Birmingham. Star Rafael Van Der Vaart missed the game with injury. Manchester City notched another shutout as they rode an early Carlos Tevez goal to a 1-0 win. City were forced to play the final 15 minutes a man down after a red card to Kolarev.
Hopefully the new year will bring some passionate performances worthy of winning the EPL.
