Arsenal hopes dashed in loss at Tottenham

Arsenal hopes dashed in loss at Tottenham

Arsenal saw their EPL title hopes dashed in a London derby loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane Wednesday.  It marked the Spurs first league win over their crosstown rivals in 11 years.  The win did not come easily though as it took a spectacular effort in goal from Gomes and one of the best volleys you will ever see from young Danny Rose.

It was his first EPL start ever for the 19yr old and Danny Rose cashed in bigtime.  In only the 10th minute he first a ridiculous volley from 25 yards that zipped past the diving Almunia and into the Arsenal net.  Tottenham had the early goal and the confidence they would need to upset the title hopeful Arsenal squad.  It will be a clear contender for EPL goal of the year.  Have a look:

The Spurs were clearly energized by the wonderful goal and road the wave into the second half where Gareth Bale caught the Arsenal defense napping in the 47th.  Jermaine Defoe slipped a perfectly weighted pass behind the defense to the streaking Bale who easily slotted home for the 2-0 lead.

Arsenal would come to life though as Robin van Persie was introduced to the game in the 67th.  He had missed several weeks on injury and his return sparked Arsenal to life.  Only two spectacular Gomes saves kept van Persie off the scoresheet, but Nicklas Bendtner finally pulled one back for Arsenal.  Tottenham were able to shut the door though from there and claim the dramatic London derby and kill Arsenal's title hopes.
