The tough day for the officials at the 2010 World Cup continued on Sunday as a clear offside was missed on the opening goal in the 26th minute. Carlos Tevez was well offside as he headed home the first goal of there evening off a flick from Lionel Messi. The Mexico players saw the replay on the bigscreen and immediately lost control swarming the linesman.
The center official and the linesman conferred and the goal was allowed to stand. Unfortunately, Mexico were so put off by the play that they lost focus and composure. Just minutes later a blunder in the back by Rocardo Osorio gifted Higuain the second goal and Argentina were on their way.
"Two mistakes ... drastically changed the course of the game," Mexico coach Javier Aguirre said.
Shortly after halftime Carlos Tevez put the final nail in the coffin as he blasted home a wonderful strike from just outside the penalty area. Mexico keeper Oscar Perez went at full stretch but had not chance.
Mexico were able to pull a consolation goal back on a roofed shot from Manchester United bound Javier Hernandez, but the result was set. Argentina cruise on to the quarterfinals and a monster showdown with an in form Germany that crushed England 4-1 earlier in the day
