Captain John Terry helped England produce their most impressive performance of the Fabio Capello era with the opening goal in a 2-0 win against the United States at Wembley. The Amercian side looked fine as they made it through the opening 20 minutes without really giving the English a good look at goal. However as the half went on the US began giving away silly fouls in their own third leading to several set piece opportunities for England. David Beckham was able to serve several good balls into the US box where finally John Terry made them pay. The Chelsea defender had something to smile about after his Champions League final penalty shoot-out agony when he headed Fabio Capello's side into a 38th-minute lead.
The Americans started brightly in the 2nd half and had an Eddie Johnson shot slide just wide of a beaten David James and the goal, but Steven Gerrard made sure of victory 14 minutes into the second half when a nice combinationand final pass from substitute Gareth Barry led to Gerrard's finish. Bottom line the lack of Landon Donovan and any quality US forwards allowed England an easy day on defense.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
