The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
Alex Morgan notched a pair of goals and had an assist as the US Women ran out dominant 5-0 winners against Denmark at the Algarve Cup in Portugal Wednesday. Three goals in the final 15 minutes put the match out of reach. Abby Wambach, Carly Lloyd and Sidney Leroux also scored in the win. The defense was equally as good as the attack as Denmark was limited to only two shots the entire match.
Next up for the US Women is a match against Norway on Friday as they try to grab their 9th Algarve Cup title. Their final group match is a tantalizing rematch of the World Cup final with Japan Monday.
