Akron with impressive wins to open college soccer season

Akron announced their intentions of a national championship run this year as they opened the 2010 college soccer season travelling to North Carolina and winning a pair of games in impressive fashion.  First up was a trip to Chapel Hill to face #4 North Carolina Friday night.  Akron wasted no time in putting their mark on the game as freshman Eric Stevenson and Perry Kitchen notched first half goals.  Darlington Nagbe added another in the second half as the Zips rolled to a convincing 3-0 victory.

Akron travelled down the road to Winston Salem to face powerful Wake Forest Sunday afternoon.  Once again it was a freshman opening the scoring for the Zips as Darren Mattocks put Akron ahead in the 15th minute of play.  Darlington Nagbe scored his second goal for the weekend providing the 2-0 margin of victory and completing the impressive two game sweep of the ACC powers.

The schedule gets easier from here for Akron as next up is a midweek match with Bowling Green followed by the University of Akron Tournament with games against Cal State Northridge and Cincinnati.
