The 2009 ACC soccer race is heating up with several teams having title aspirations heading into the home stretch. The current standings show Maryland on top with 13 points followed by North Carolina on 10 points both having played six ACC matches. Wake Forest is also on 10 with Boston College on 9 both having only played five league games so far.
The next tier shows North Carolina State at 7 followed by Virginia, Duke and Virginia Tech all on 6 points. The latter group on 6 points all have only played 5 ACC games. Finally, Clemson sits last with only 3 points.
Next weekend is a huge matchup between Maryland and Wake Forest which will go a long way to deciding the ACC regular season champion. It will be a tall task, but if Maryland can win at Wake Forest they will be sitting pretty for the title. If Wake can win on their home field the race will be wide wide.
Boston College also visits Virginia next weekend as Virginia tries to climb back into the ACC picture. The conference tournament is scheduled for November 10-15 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
