Both home sides moved on to the NCAA Final Four to be held in Saint Louis next weekend. Wake Forest faced a feisty and talented Santa Clara squad and found itself behind 1-0 in the 24th minute as Santa Clara struck on a Peter Lowry goal. It looked like the lead would hold up into halftime until Steve Curfman scored with only 2 minutes remaining in the half. The late goal energized Wake and they emerged from the locker room searching for the lead. Michael Lahoud scored the go ahead goal with only 15 minutes to play and a late tally from Wells Thompson on an assist from Ryan Solle left no doubt.

In the other quaerterfinal match of the night Virginia hosted a Notre Dame side that had eliminated the defending national champions Maryland last weekend. Virginia came out firing and took the lead in the 25th minute when Nico Colaluca slipped a perfect through ball into Adam Cristman who scored. Just 10 minutes later Virginia doubled its lead as Yannick Reyering gathered control of a rebound and put it home. 2-0 Virginia at the half.
The Irish regrouped at the half and came out looking to get back into the match. They cut the lead in half as Kurt Martin scored off an assist from Joseph Lapira, but Virginia answered right back. Cristman and Colaluca hooked up again to make it 3-1. A penalty kick from Martin did provide for some late nervousness from the home side but Notre Dame wasn't able to get the 3rd goal they needed.
