Along with the players who signed today, an additional newcomer, freshman midfielder Servando Carrasco, entered school this spring and is eligible to play next season. Grimes' signees all hail from the state of California.
"We are very excited to have all five of these players join our program," Grimes said. "Their talent and skill level is outstanding and they all come from high-quality club programs. We look forward to announcing 3-4 more players in the next couple of days as their paperwork gets in the system."

Oregon State men’s soccer coach Dana Taylor announced his recruiting class today for the 2007 season, and his 11-player list includes a strong group of standout student-athletes. There are three each from Oregon (one via the Congo) and Arizona, two from Idaho, and one each from Nevada, Virginia and Australia.
“I feel this recruiting class may rank as one of our best in the past eight years,” Taylor said. “We improved our defense significantly and added depth in the back. The attacking players we have added should impact the squad right away. As a group, they have excellent size to match their athleticism and skill. This group has also proven to be very successful in the classroom. We have a very strong group of returning starters, and our 2007 team should be much deeper and very talented. We are eager for the new season to begin.”

"When combined with our last two ranked recruiting classes, our 2007 incomers will make this the deepest and most talented Aztec soccer team that we've had in quite some time," Kirshner said. "The greatest quality of this class is its ability to make us a more intelligent soccer team, while maintaining the ability and athleticism necessary to compete effectively in the Division I game."

Simon has high hopes for this special group of players. "On paper the freshman class is the deepest and most talented group in the past decade. Many will be expected to quickly contribute, though the number of strong returning players should make that process of integrating the new players smoother and more gradual."

UCLA - -
UCLA men's soccer coach Jorge Salcedo has signed West Coast standouts Kyle McAthy and Brian Rowe to national letters of intent.
McAthy, from Huntington Beach HS in Huntington Beach, Calif., is a high-scoring 6-foot forward who has compiled a school record 50 goals and counting in his career. Last season, he was a Los Angeles Times All-Area selection after scoring 22 goals and 10 assists. He currently has 24 goals and 8 assists. McAthy's older brothers Aaron and Drew played at UC Santa Barbara, with Drew being UCSB's all-time leading goal scorer.
Rowe, a goalkeeper from South Eugene HS in Eugene, Ore., was a high school teammate of current Bruin freshman Ryan White. Rowe was the 2005 Midwestern League Goalkeeper of the Year and earned All-State honors in 2006 (first-team) and 2005 (second-team). He was also an honorable mention all-state place kicker during his first year on the football team in 2006.
UCLA's signing class is its smallest since 1999 because the Bruins lose just two players from last year's national finalist squad. Twenty-four players and nine starters return next season, including All-American Sal Zizzo, his U.S. Under-20 teammates Tony Beltran and Brian Perk. Under-18 National team member Michael Stephens, Soccer America's Freshman of the Year David Estrada and All-Far West honoree Mike Zaher. In addition, the Bruins regain the services of three potential starters who suffered season-ending injuries, Brandon Owens, Maxwell Griffin and Edwige Ligonde.
Washington - -
Washington men's soccer coach Dean Wurzberger announced his 2007 national letter of intent signing class, Friday, a group that is led by U.S. U-17 National Team star forward Ellis McLoughlin.
"This 2007 recruiting class is an outstanding group of players that will surely make a positive impact on our soccer program," Wurzberger said. "We are adding important players in the back, midfield and especially up front. Securing the late commitment from Ellis McLoughlin was the final piece we needed to rank this 2007 class as one of the best in recent UW memory."
Four of the five signees - Keller, Macaluso, Mueller and Van Houten - will enroll in school and join the Husky squad in fall 2007, but McLoughlin will join the team in January, 2008, due to his academic schedule and a pending FIFA U-17 World Cup opportunity.
