Several juicy matchups are on taps for the 2nd round of the NCAA Mens Tournament to be played on Wednesday night. Among the most anticipated games are Maryland at home to St Johns. It seems these two meet in the NCAAs every year and this year St Johns brings in a 7 game shutout streak. This will be the 4 straight year the teams have met in the tourney with Maryland taking the first 3. Also among the top Wednesday games is a very talented SMU squad hosting UC Santa Barbara. SMU has 2 Hermann Award finalists and has been ranked in the top 4 for most of the season. UCSB brings in a strong West Coast side that has been tested with a tough schedule.
Another good match pits last years finalist New Mexico against a solid California side. St Louis hosts a Northwestern side that is very capable of an upset and has played a very difficult schedule so they certainly won't be intimidated.
The Round 2 matchups:
Duke - Brown
Rhode Island - Lehigh
Clemson - Gardner Webb
Harvard - UCLA
Maryland - St Johns
Illinois Chicago - Notre Dame
California - New MExico
Bucknell - Virginia
SMU - UC Santa Barbara
Old Dominion - North Carolina
St Louis - Northwestern
UNC Greensboro - West Virginia
Indiana - Northern Illinois
Washington - Santa Clara
Towson - Fairfield
Hofstra - Wake Forest
