FC Dallas sends 3 to England for 'Generation Adidas Euro Tour'

Published 12/1/2006 11:04:46 AM by Soccer Mogul Staff from Dallas, Texas U.S.A.

FC Dallas is sending 3 players with the MLS team that will tour England on the Generation Adidas Tour this month. Last year's first round draft pick Dax McCarty will join fellow teammates Drew Moor and Blake Wagner on the trip. The tour is scheduled to last 10 days and will feature the young MLSers against UK reserve teams from clubs such as Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers, and Watford. The Generation Adidas team will also hold training sessions at the Chelsea Academy, and attend two Premiere League games and as well as a Champions League match.

Established ahead of the 2005 regular season, Generation Adidas is Major League Soccer's Youth Development Program, which is designed to identify and nurture elite youth soccer talent in the United States. In addition to having the opportunity to train and play on a weekly basis with one of MLS' 13 professional teams, those players who belong to Generation Adidas also receive educational grants to further their college education.

Eleven of Major League Soccer's 13 clubs will be represented on the trip, with FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake leading the way by sending three players each. The only teams not sending at least one player are DC United and 2007 expansion side Toronto FC. Red Bulls forward Jozy Altidore will not attend due to a previous commitment to take part in a service trip to Haiti with two other New York players.
