WASHINGTON (AFP) - Luciano Emilio, a 28-year-old Brazilian striker playing for CD Olimpia of Honduras, signed with DC United of Major League Soccer.
Emilio has won four of the past five scoring crowns in Honduras, the Sao Paulo native netting 91 goals for two clubs during his stay in the Central American nation.
Olimpia will learn all too soon how much they have lost because Emilio´s first match with United will be against the Honduran squad in the CONCACAF Champions Cup next month in Honduras in the first leg of a two-game series.
"He is a strong target striker and an accomplished goal scorer," United technical director Dave Kasper said. "We look forward to his future contributions."
Emilio began at age 16 with XV de Piracicaba and Rio Branco of Brazil´s first division, then joined Cologne of the Bundesliga. He then went to Aachen before returning to Brazil briefly before making his name in Honduras.
